613 days of captivity. 613! I cannot believe we st 613 days of captivity. 613! I cannot believe we still have hostages in captivity after 613 days. I don’t have any articulate words to describe the pain, hurt, and terror this, and all the terrible violence and pain, ignite in me. I do appreciate the message from hostage families (@bring.hersh.home ) asking people to do good deeds this day, connecting the number 613 with the number of commandments, of mitzvot, shared in the Torah, flooding the world with good deeds and kindness in merit of those hostages and their homecoming (please G-d may that be soon 🙏). With that in mind our activity after school today was to decorate a bag (yes, we love painting!), then filled it with the items found on our beloved preschool’s wishlist, helping provide for the school so that they can continue to create meaningful and fun experiences for their students. My kids were so happy to collect these items from around our house and fill that bag to overflowing. I’m holding onto that joy, that happiness of doing things for others, of performing mitzvot, and hope the world is doing the same. Repairing this broken world, one mitzvah at a time. And hoping hoping hoping that our hostages will soon be home to join us ❤️

Just 2.5 days left of this school year for the big Just 2.5 days left of this school year for the bigs! Last week was super busy with lots of end of the year activities and the last class and events for our preschooler (and us!) ever 😭 This week promises to be busy as well but I am going to try hard to include some post-school fun and meaningful invitations. Wish me luck 🤞

Our first activity was a process art invitation + some reflection questions. The kids used matchbox cars to paint their 2024-2025 school journey, then we talked about some reflection questions to have them thinking back about some highlights of the past school year. Super easy to set up and I really love hearing about some of the favorites of my babies ❤️

Chag Shavuot Sameach ❤️ We kicked off Shavuos Chag Shavuot Sameach ❤️ We kicked off Shavuos with sweet dairy treats of ice cream sandwiches and individual cheesecakes, reviewing the 10 Commandments while we ate, and studying Torah by reading our Book of Ruth 3 Part Cards 😍 Simple, meaningful and sweet learning and fun 🙌

Each Shavuot, I enjoy reviewing the 10 Commandment Each Shavuot, I enjoy reviewing the 10 Commandments with the kids, usually in some form of process art (yep, I’m a huge process art fan!). This year we created our own 10 Commandment Shavuot Flower. Why flowers? Well I often due process art with the tablet shape but I thought this year it would be fun to incorporate another symbol of Shavuot. It’s customary to decorate homes and synagogues with flowers and greenery. This practice stems from the belief that Mount Sinai, where the Torah was given, was adorned with flowers. So this sweet 10 Commandment Shavuot Flower, with a commandment glued to every petal, helps remind us both of this covenant and custom ❤️

I love that this beautiful process art (were you able to see the marble effect the Saran Wrap makes on the wet paint? It’s hard to see in the video but I love it!) practices multiple skills for my sweet kiddos: fine motor, pincer grasp, scissor/cutting skills, creativity, writing and more!

The 10 Commandments Cutting Prompt can be found as a free printable on our website in the Shavuot Hub, link in bio!

I learned a new word and it’s perfect for today’s Shavuot activity: Graphomotor Paths to Mount Sinai 🙌 Graphomotor means relating to or affecting movements made in writing. It’s all the wonderful skills used to perform the task of writing, such as recognizing letters and words, committing them to memory, envisioning what one wants to write, planning the movements needed, and executing those movements. But before you can get to writing letters and words, kids’ hands have to be strong enough and have proper control to hold their writing instrument and they need to have visual-motor coordination abilities in order to move that instrument as they want it to. One way to practice these pre-writing skills is by tracing different kinds of lines, helping the hands, fingers, and mind all understand how to make these movements.

Today I drew a simple Mount Sinai outline, then four different paths to the mountain. The boys used their pointer fingers to trace the different lines with paint. Then they got to go all in—fingers and hands!—to paint Mount Sinai itself. We rarely finger paint anymore and I thought this would be a fun tactile experience for them in addition to the pre-writing practice. You could also use q-tips to help with that pincer grasp and pencil hold.

Love that we have more beautiful Mount Sinai art to hang on the wall and that it included some great handwriting practice too ❤️

Is ice cream one of the sweet traditions you look Is ice cream one of the sweet traditions you look forward to for Shavuot? In our house that’s a definite yes, bring on that sweet frozen milk and honey 🙌🍦 To get us in the we-all-scream-for-ice-cream mood, I set out this super simple ice cream fine motor and counting invitation, perfect for Shavuot or any time you want a sweet activity 😉

I made ice cream cones out of brown paper, then set out a bunch of cotton balls and tongs. I invited my kiddos to use our Shavuot Counting Cards to identify the number on the card (either by reading the word, visually identifying the numeral or by counting the dots—so much great differentiation in one card!!), then count out and transfer the corresponding number of cotton balls, using the tongs, to create their ice cream cone. The kids were super excited to actually add the number of “scoops” to match the following card number so they added a level of math and addition that I didn’t even anticipate, these smart guys ❤️

These Shavuot Counting Cards are available in our With Love, Ima Shop, link in bio. Enjoy!

I love making a visual of Mount Sinai for Shavuot I love making a visual of Mount Sinai for Shavuot and this year I added a nature cutting tray to the invitation, making it a Shavuot Nature Cutting Tray and Mount Sinai Nature Collage. I’m in love 🥰 Lots of good fine motor skill practice with the nature cutting (and proper positioning help with thumb up for the incoming kindergartener!) and artistic creativity with how the kiddos arranged the cuttings to create a beautiful (and lovely smelling!) Mount Sinai ❤️ One of the traditions of Shavuot is decorating with greenery and nature and I think we accomplished that with this first activity 🙌 Had to follow with one of our favorite @pjlibrary Shavuot book, The Littlest Mountain ❤️

We have less than two weeks until the next major J We have less than two weeks until the next major Jewish holiday, Shavuot! Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah and this year the holiday starts on Sunday, June 1st. This holiday also marks 7 weeks, 49 days, since Passover—this is the Counting of the Omer we’ve been doing! I really can’t believe almost seven weeks have flown by this fast!

To get us in the Shavuot-mindset, we of course started with a Shavuot Shelfie! Once again, I set out (almost) all previously shared invitations so the kids can explore on their own and at their leisure. One new and super simple activity is the Ice Cream Do a Dot printable 🍦

Shavua tov! As we said goodbye to Shabbat, we read Shavua tov! As we said goodbye to Shabbat, we read this sweet newly released book, The See-You-Soon Spice Box by @pamelaehrenbergauthor , and crafted lovely spice boxes ourselves during the in between time of Havdalah before getting to use these new spice boxes in our own Havdalah ceremony ❤️ The story is about Havdalah, but even more so about the love between a great grandmother and her great grandson and the connection and joy they find together even when they are apart. Having recently lost both my grandparents, my kids’ great grandparents, this story felt especially touching and I feel so incredibly grateful for the time we all had with my grandparents. I love that in the story Silas was inspired to create his own spice box because his great grandpa had done the same.

The kids followed the craft described in the book to make their own super simple DIY spice boxes (using recycled materials, yay!), then got to sprinkle their own mixture of spices (whole cardamom, cloves and cinnamon sticks) into the boxes. We all enjoyed inhaling these spices and thinking about how these were kid-made and made with love as we passed them around during the ceremony ❤️

May your new week be one of peace and of many blessings ❤️ Shavua tov ❤️

My kids keep playing with the Fizzy Fun Bonfire Se My kids keep playing with the Fizzy Fun Bonfire Sensory Bin I set up on Monday so I was inspired to create another Lag Ba’Omer sensory bin for today’s activity and this one comes with a free printable 🙌 My boys are both very into counting and numbers right now so I counted out 33 red gems (vase fillers found at Dollar Tree!), scattered them in a bin and covered with one of my favorite super simple sensory fillers, oats. I created the Lag Ba’Omer 33 Bonfire Printable to reinforce that Lag Ba’Omer takes place on the 33rd of the Omer and to give my boys practice counting, one to one correspondence and number recognition. The boys searched in the oats for the red gems, then added a gem to each number in the bonfire outline, counting as they went and making sure they added the gems in numerical order. And when they finished … they dumped the gems back in the bin and did it all again, woo hoo!!

The printable is available for free and can be found in our Lag Ba’Omer Hub, link in bio. It would totally work for a do a dot (with dot markers or stickers) invitation as well … in fact, I might try that tomorrow 😉

Paint with red, orange and yellow paint, then lay a blank piece of paper on top, lightly pressing down, to create your very own Lag Ba’Omer Bonfire Print Art 🙌 Peeling stickers is such a good fine motor and pincer grasp skill practice and we were all so excited to see what the prints would look like! Counting our way through the Omer means we are ver Counting our way through the Omer means we are very close to the holiday of Lag Ba’Omer, which occurs on the 33rd day of the Omer, this year starting next week on the evening of May 15th. Lag Ba’Omer remembers when Jewish students had to hide their Torah learning (disguising their learning as them hunting with bows and arrows or picnicking), celebrates the lives of great rabbis Akiva and Shimon, takes a pause in the mourning period of Omer to cut hair and have weddings, and often includes celebrating with bonfires with friends and family ❤️

I set up this year’s Lag Ba’Omer Shelfie with activities from previous years and I can’t wait for my kids to explore and enjoy throughout this next week:

- Lag Ba’Omer @pjlibrary books
- Lag Ba’Omer sensory bin made with scarves, DIY clay marshmallows and cardboard and felt s’mores
- Our wedding album ❤️
- Lag Ba’Omer 3 Part Cards
- Pretend Play Picnic Food
- Felt Bonfire Invitation
- Jewish Wedding Nomenclature Cards
- Toilet Paper Hair Cutting Invitation
- Felt S’mores Invitation
- Bow and arrow and tree target number matching cards
- 33 Do a Dot

Hanukkah in May? When you have a fun new game to t Hanukkah in May? When you have a fun new game to try out, you are definitely excited to celebrate Hanukkah any time of the year 😂 We are so lucky that we got to try out this new Hanukkah board game and I must admit, I had no idea how uninformed I was about Hanukkah trivia and I absolutely loved getting the chance to learn more about this holiday while getting to also enjoy special time with my family 🙌

This game can be played with small or large groups and does involve reading but all ages can attempt to answer the trivia questions and of course learning is happening with each question! My youngest boys were actually the most fascinated with it and kept asking questions even after we made it all around the Hanukkiah ❤️

The creators of this game, Anya and Irina Kagan, are a Jewish sister duo who’ve created this Hanukkah board game to bring some light and joy to the Jewish community. They hope to launch Gifts Galore: Hanukkah with a Kickstarter campaign this June.

It was a special treat to get to play this game in May (the gelt was a fun addition too haha) and I know it will become a Hanukkah family tradition, perfect for our traditional second night of Hanukkah theme, Game Night!!

If you want a chance at playing this game with your family sign up for their newsletter at https://www.giftsgaloregames.com/p/hanukkah.html so you’ll be the first to find out when the Kickstarter goes live!

Can you celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut without making Can you celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut without making an Israeli flag? Probably but we’ve never tried and we don’t want to start now 🤪 Over the years we’ve made Israeli flags in many different ways—collages, salt painting, dot stickers and more. This year we made collage windsocks in both my classroom and at home and they were a huge hit. Who wouldn’t want to get to sing and dance around with streamers trailing behind you? We topped it off with some DIY Happy 77th Birthday Israel crowns. When I teach about Israel, I always like to share about the diversity of topography, activities, landmarks, food, and people. This year I made our own Israel symbols for the kids to color in that represent a bit of that diversity and are great starting points for deeper conversations. Yesterday my students were the most focused creating these crafts than I’ve seen them all year! Getting to see them crafting Israel, then doing the parade as we sang Hatikvah really warmed my heart. At home after school today we didn’t do a parade but we did do a dance party and that was pretty fun too 🙌

The Israeli flag template is available as a free printable on our website in our Yom Ha’atzmaut Hub, link in bio. Check out the other activities we’ve enjoyed over the years and have so much fun preparing to wish Israel a happy 77th birthday!!
