We have so much fun with our DIY light table and Lag Ba’Omer gives us a perfect opportunity for this Bonfire Light Table Invitation! One of the traditions of Lag Ba’Omer is to have a bonfire. Whether or not you’re able to set up a real bonfire, this kid-friendly light table bonfire will allow the kids to interact with this Lag Ba’Omer tradition and have a fun time while doing so.
What You’ll Need
- Light table. We love our DIY one! I made it with rechargeable LED lights in a sensory bin with a frosted lid. So simple!
- Kitpas or other washable markers or crayons
- Orange, yellow and red triangle magnets
Putting It Together
- Draw a bonfire outline/invitation on the lid of your light table.
- Turn on the lights/light table!
- Invite your child to create a bonfire with the magnets.
Finished & Loving It!
This is such an easy and simple set up and premise but my kids loved it! They worked together to move around the triangle magnets into the bonfire shapes they desired.
This is an excellent activity for critical thinking and planning. I loved watching them look at the materials and see how they wanted to build their bonfire. There are also extension options–discuss the shapes, how the triangles are larger or smaller, identify and match colors, etc.
If you have some pretend s’mores fixings that could add a sweet element to the fun! However it’s set up, the kids will enjoy hands-on skill practice, Lag Ba’Omer holiday tradition identification, and fun!
Chag Sameach!
We have a whole page dedicated to Lag Ba’Omer, our Lag Ba’Omer Hub. Check it out! It includes some of the Lag Ba’Omer activities we plan to do this year, as well as the activities we’ve done in previous years.
And don’t forget our Lag Ba’Omer Montessori-Style 3 Part Cards, a wonderful way to introduce Lag Ba’Omer! And, now we also have all 13 Jewish holidays bundled together in A Year of Jewish Holidays 3 Part Cards.
