With few Jewish holidays coming up, summer is the perfect time to explore non-holiday books and activities, just like this Fizzy Bath Fun with Hillel Takes a Bath!
I’m a huge Hillel fan (yep, one of our kids’ Hebrew names is Hillel!) so I was already predisposed to like the Hillel Takes a Bath book and it is indeed a sweet story with lots of little nuggets of Jewish wisdom and review of mitzvot. It also pairs so well with any kind of bath time activity! The activity we did today was make these fizzy bath muffins (with a surprise inside!) and then, of course, took a bath!
What You’ll Need
- Baking soda
- Citric acid
- Lavender essential oil (or other favorite scent)
- Water
- Bowl
- Silicone mold
- Small plastic treasures (optional)
- Hillel Takes a Bath book
Putting It Together
- Add 2 cups baking soda and 1/2 cup citric acid together in a mixing bowl.
- Once mixed together, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. This is optional but we love the relaxing scent of lavender so enjoyed adding it.
- Add a little water at a time, mixing with a spoon or your hands, until the consistency is crumbly but clumps together when you squeeze a chunk of it.
- Add some of the mixture to the bottom of your silicone molds. We used our silicone muffin mold.
- If you wish, add a small treasure.
- Then add more mixture until the mold is full.
- Let dry completely, about a day or two. You’ll see that the mixture looks crusty and is dry to the touch.
- Prepare your bath. We added bath color tabs too!
- Toss in one or a two of the fizzy bath muffins and watch them fizz and reveal their surprise!
- Read Hillel Takes a Bath before or during the bath.
Finished & Loving It!
My daughter helped me make the fizzy bath muffins which was a special activity in and of itself.
The boys were so excited for bath time fun (it’s soooo hot here so any kind of water play, inside or out, has been appreciated!). I did give them a heads up about a surprise inside so they were especially excited to watch the fizz and help the muffins break apart to reveal their surprises!
I read the book to them as they splashed and played and fizzed and enjoyed some bath time fun!
