Our Lag Ba’Omer Bonfire Salt Art is another wonderful opportunity to combine a favorite activity with preparing for a holiday. It’s also a super simple set up, always a plus! We absolutely love salt art and watching colors spread so we were all entertained as we enjoyed this craft together.
What You’ll Need
- Cardstock
- Glue
- Sticks or brown paper strips
- Salt
- Liquid watercolors in yellow and red
- Paintbrush and/or pipette
Putting It Together
- Gather some sticks or cut some strips from brown paper.
- Invite your children to put glue on the bottom of their cardstock and add the paper strips to resemble logs on a bonfire.
- Next, add glue above the logs.
- Spread salt over the paper. Move the paper back and forth to evenly spread the salt, discarding the excess that falls off (or saving it for more play later).
- Use a pipette or a paintbrush to transfer liquid watercolor in yellow and red to the salt. Once it touches the salt it will spread a bit on its on.
- Have fun watching this process art take on its own shapes and colors (we loved when the red and yellow mixed to make orange!)!
Finished & Loving It!
We love salt art and this was such a fun twist on the common bonfire Lag Ba’Omer craft! It combined process art, science, lots of fun observation and interest. And was pretty too!
In this case we had salt leftover from a previous activity and were able to use it again. Since you pour the salt over, it’s easy to keep the excess for another time. Think more salt art opportunities or some salt and ice cube play!
There is more to Lag Ba’Omer than bonfires, but this a really simple set up and such a fun process that it’s worth it to add another bonfire activity to your mix!
We have a whole page dedicated to Lag Ba’Omer, our Lag Ba’Omer Hub. Check it out! It will include some of the Lag Ba’Omer activities we do this year, as well as the activities we’ve done in previous years.
And don’t forget our Lag Ba’Omer Montessori-Style 3 Part Cards, a wonderful way to introduce the holiday!
