For years I’ve wanted a special tray for our stack of matzah during our Passover seders so when I saw @JandJCraftLady share a melted bead bowl tutorial, I knew I had to give my dream a try and we created this awesome Melted Bead Matzah Tray! It is so incredibly easy and the kids love the brightness of it. I can’t wait to use it for our seder tomorrow night.
What You’ll Need
- Perler beads
- Cooking oil
- Cooking brush
- Ovenproof baking tray
- Oven
Putting It Together
- Pour some oil onto your baking tray; use the cooking brush to spread it all over the bottom of the tray.
- Pour perler beads into the tray.
- Make sure to cover the bottom as well as you can. Try not to have holes or big piles of beads. This will take some time and work!
- Pre-heat your oven to 480 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake your tray for at least 5 minutes; start checking after five minutes and take out after it looks like the beads have stuck together. They don’t have to be melted into blobs, but should be noticeably distended so you know they are baked to their neighbor.
- Let cool completely then remove from your tray.
- Wash well; let dry.
- Set on your seder table with a stack of matzah and enjoy your beautiful new Melted Bead Matzah Tray!
Finished & Loving It!
We totally love our new Melted Bead Matzah Tray! It’s bright and fun and adds so much color, I know it will be beautiful on our seder table tomorrow.
This Melted Bead Matzah Tray is such a quick and simple craft for your kids. This activity is perfect for when they want to do something but maybe not for a long time haha. They do get to practice pouring with both the oil and the beads. And my kids loved getting to brush the oil around with the brushes. But an adult is needed to do all the oven work so after the beginning steps it’s just waiting time for them.
Luckily, my kids were totally fine with that. They felt happy they got to do a craft and then they ran off to do something else. They loved seeing the final product when it was cool enough to remove!
Creating our own special touches makes our seder even more special. However you celebrate, I hope you are filled with connection, history, celebration of freedom, and hope for the future! Happy Passover!
