We do lots of apple and honey activities in preparation of Rosh Hashanah and this Messy Apple and Shaving Cream Honey play was a super fun way to talk about the tradition of dipping apples in honey, and getting our hands dirty at the same time! Dip your apple into some messy shaving cream honey and have fun with this super simple Rosh Hashanah activity!

Finished & Loving It!
This was another super easy activity to set up and the kids had so much fun with it! They love all kinds of shaving cream play so I anticipated some happy kiddos but they also loved the addition of the apples as another manipulative and fun addition.
Shaving cream as sensory play is not only easy but it’s really great opportunity for kids to experience messy play that can easily wash off. My kids love the squishy texture and being able to “build” with it–lots of pushing and smooshing and mounds!
As the kids played we sang two Dip Your Apple songs. If you don’t know these yet, they are a simple and fun way to review the Rosh Hashanah tradition of dipping apples in honey.
The first song goes like “Dip your apple, in the honey, sing the bracha loud and clear. Shanah Tovah u’metuka, have a happy, sweet new year!” The tune is to the Oh my Darling (Clementine) song and we sing it all month long in anticipation and review of Rosh Hashanah. Shaboom! has a cute video singing this song, we love it!
The other dip your apple song is by The Fountainheads. They don’t produce new songs or videos anymore but the ones they have are really great for learning about the holidays through song. We love dancing and singing to this version.
Singing while playing is another way to remember these traditions and is, of course, super fun. But whether or not you sing while you dip your apples, this Messy Apple and Shaving Cream Honey is sure to be a meaningful, fun messy good time!
