Finished & Loving It!
This is such a simple invitation but I love how it combined my kids’ interest in numbers and counting and also reviews the commandments!
My incoming second grader could this activity by himself. He is super proud of himself for now being able to read the commandments by himself too!
My preschooler does not yet recognize all numerals himself so this was a great exercise to practice counting (one to one correspondence by counting each dot) and then identifying the matching numerals he recognized and getting help for those he doesn’t.
And of course it was a great practice for both of them to review the 10 commandments. It’s not important to me that they know the order of the commandments, just that they have an idea of what the commandments are. As you can see, our version is kid-friendly. You are can easily review the commandments in whatever language/version feels comfortable for your family.
You can also set up a second invitation where you mix up the order of the numerals to add an extra challenge.
This activity would of course work perfectly for exploring and celebrating Shavuot; we did it as part of our Torah story exploration of the Mount Sinai & the 10 Commandments Torah story. For either unit (or for both!), it’s a wonderful way to add some Jewish learning while practicing some early learner skills!
We found this video another super fun way to review the ten commandments, from our favorite, Bim Bam!
