Rosh Hashanah Apple Stick Matching Activity for the High Holidays this morning! Egg carton crafts are so great because they use recycled products (yay for the Jewish value of bal tashchit!) and have so many possibilities.
This Rosh Hashanah Apple Stick Matching Activity was easy to set up, helped my kids practice their fine motor skills and speech development, and connected the symbolism of the apples to the holiday of Rosh Hashanah.
What You’ll Need
- Empty egg carton
- Red, green and yellow paint
- Brown construction paper
- Green construction paper
- 3 popsicle/craft sticks
- Paint brush(es)
- Scissors
- Glue gun
Putting It Together
1. Cut your egg carton into 3 bumps.
2. Paint three egg carton bumps and three popsicle sticks green, red and yellow.
3. Cut a slit on top of each bump.
4. Cut, then glue construction paper stems and leaves to the top of each bump.
5. Let paint dry. Once dry, invite your child to try sticking the sticks into the apple with the matching color.
Finished & Loving It
We’ve done stick activities before where the focus was working on fine motor skill development. When you add in colors like this it automatically becomes a great activity to practice matching colors. And in my little guy’s case, activities like this are perfect for him to practice pronouncing the names of colors which we are currently working on in his speech language therapy 🤗
A quick spiel about why we are using apples and how that symbol represents the sweetness and hope for the new year and you’ve also done a Rosh Hashanah review today ✅
One activity with lots of beautiful, natural benefits to encourage kids to learn through play ❤️
