A few weeks ago I set up a super easy Adam and Eve Pom Pom Posting Tree activity for the youngest two to do while the bigs were in distance learning. This is part of our summer theme of diving deeper into learning the Torah stories. For this activity we focused on the part of the Adam and Eve Torah story where G-d said not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge and then Eve and Adam ate the fruit. We reviewed this part of the story by reading our Adam and Eve 3 Part Cards and then dived into the fun!
It’s a super easy activity to set up and is a great way to practice some fine motor skills!
What You’ll Need
- empty box
- paint (we used paint sticks because they are so quick to dry)
- knife or scissors
- pom poms
Putting It Together
- Paint trees on the sides of an old box. My kids had so much fun doing this part!
- Cut holes in the trees. I did about three for each side of the box. The holes need to be big enough for the pom pom to be pushed through but not too big that the pom pom will just fall through.
- I painted around the holes in different colors because I wanted to work on color matching with this activity as well as posting.
- Invite the kids to push pom poms into the corresponding colored holes.
️Finished & Loving It!
The littles loved this Adam and Eve Pom Pom Posting Tree activity! This activity let the kiddos practice fine motor skills, color matching, speech articulation, and was a fun way to connect to the Torah story.
If you want to only focus on posting then you don’t have to worry about trying to match the pom poms to the correct colors. Posting is a Montessori activity where the child places an object through a small opening into a container. There are so many ways to DIY this–pom poms, popsicle sticks, toothpicks. It is a great activity to practice fine motor development, hand-eye coordination and dexterity. It’s a totally worthy activity just on its own.
My preschooler has had color articulation as one of his speech goals this past year so I always like including opportunities to practice this in fun and non-pressured ways. That’s why I included the color matching for us. He would say the color of the pom pom then match it to the painted hole before pushing it in.
This Adam and Eve Pom Pom Posting Tree activity also really worked for the 14 month old. I still need to watch him around small objects like pom poms but because he understood the activity, he was really interested in pushing the pom pom in the hole instead of putting it in his mouth. Yay!
And as soon as big sis came down from class she couldn’t wait to join!
What easy peasy activities do you like to put together to keep your little ones occupied when they’re missing the bigs?
