Want to encourage your toddler to get in the Purim spirit? This super easy to make “Boo Haman!” activity is a great way for them to practice saying “Boo Haman!” and a fun way to improve their fine motor skills. It’s so easy to make and all three of my kids (not just the toddler!) had fun playing with it!
My two year old has been eating all the sensory activities I’ve been preparing for him lately so I was so happy to come up with a new, fun fine motor skill activity that he wouldn’t want to eat and that can totally have a fun Jewish spin to it.
What You’ll Need
- Empty box (not a too big or a too small one, but a just right one!)
- Scissors
- Clear packing tape
- Picture of Haman (or draw it yourself!)
- Popsicle sticks
- Sharpie
- Knife
Putting it Together
1.Cut the bottom off a box.
2. Cut out a picture of Haman and glue it to the top of the box. Or, draw or paint a picture of Haman. We googled Haman and found this cute image.
3. Use a knife to cut a few slits in the top of the box. We made 4 alternating diagonal slits.
4. Trace these slits with a sharpie.
5. Give your child some popsicle sticks and enjoy watching them shove the sticks in the slits while shouting “Boo Haman!”
6. Children will also have fun lifting up the box and finding all the sticks that were hiding underneath. Get ready for time to do the dishes while they are entertained with this Purim activity!
Finished & Loving It!
This box took less than 5 minutes to create and has entertained all 3 of my kids for way longer than that, multiple times a day! It’s such a simple concept but kids of all ages like the challenge of figuring out how to fit things into small spaces. It helps them practice fine motor skills, they enjoy doing it, and by modeling saying “Boo Haman!” they also learn that very familiar Purim phrase! Soon even your toddler will be ready to participate in the Purim Spiel!
