I’m all about capturing my kids’ creativity during any day of the year, and it’s especially special to have them fully participate in creating holiday decorations. This year I had my students, and my own kids, create super simple Hanukkah platters. Check out how to make the Easiest Hanukkah DIY Platters for your Hanukkah celebration!
These platters can be used for latkes, rugelach, sufganiyot, whatever you want but the most important part is that they are designed by your own children. Capturing their drawings at this year’s Hanukkah will forever be a special memory.
What You’ll Need
- Ceramic plate
- Colored sharpies
- Oven
Putting it Together
- Give each child a ceramic plate. We chose white because that’s the clearest canvas for the kids to be creative in whatever ways they wish, but you can use any color. We were able to order these cute ceramic platters from Dollar Tree. I had no idea you could order from Dollar Tree online and have them shipped to the store! For a religious school class of 24 plus my own children, paying only $1/child was definitely the cheapest option for this craft!
- Have the children draw Hanukkah symbols on their platter. In my Sunday School class, we introduced the holiday of Hanukkah with a story, then brainstormed and created a list (with pictures of course!) of the common Hanukkah symbols and traditions. This poster was visible while the children decorated their platters.
- Bake each platter in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to set the markers.
- Fill with Hanukkah treats and enjoy!
Finished & Loving It!
This craft was so simple but very meaningful for all of my students, their parents, and my own children. Most kids love creating their own designs and I far prefer their own creations to coloring in pre-made Hanukkah cartoons.
At $1/plate + the cost of a package of colored sharpies, this craft was super cheap, easy to make, and a wonderful memory for this Hanukkah and years to come!
