Loose parts play is such an amazing open-ended, creative opportunity to explore and have fun which is why I was so excited to invite my kids to create their own Purim Loose Parts Crown Decorating as another way to celebrate Queen Esther and Purim!
What You’ll Need
- Loose parts (you can buy a beautiful set like ours from Meadowbrook Playschool—use WithLoveIma20 for a discount!!—or make your own with items around your house like blocks, fruit pouch lids, marbles, etc)
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Gold paint
- Gold glitter paint
- Paintbrush
Putting It Together
- Make your crown base by cutting out a crown shape from a recycled cardboard box.
- Paint the crown gold then add some gold glitter paint if you want.
- Set out the crown and your loose parts.
- Invite your children to decorate the crown.
- They can create, then start over multiple times, creating a new crown each time!
- Talk about Queen Esther and the Purim story and how the crown symbolizes Esther as she becomes queen and how she saved the Jewish people.
Finished & Loving It!
The kids had an amazing time creating their own tree out of loose parts for Tu B’Shevat so I thought they would also enjoy some open-ended, creative opportunities with this Purim Loose Parts Crown Decorating. And I was right! They had so many different options for creating and could do as they wished, sometimes making patterns, sometimes making flowers, sometimes just enjoying the different colors, shapes and textures as they set them out.
What was also so great about this activity is that they could, and were very interested in, wiping clear their crown and starting again and again. Sometimes they worked together, sometimes they circled back and made their own creation. It was low-key, calm, and all about the process and their own exploration. So so amazing!
And, of course, glittery crowns are always fun and a simple, but meaningful way to talk about the Purim story!! Check out our Instagram account for a reel and some cute videos of the creating in action!
We also have an entire Purim Activity Bundle ready for your Purim learning and exploration fun! Check it out in the With Love, Ima Shop or on Teachers Pay Teachers.
