A super easy, fun, and delicious-smelling Rosh Hashanah activity is Rosh Hashanah DIY Honeycomb and Bees Playdough Stamping!

Honeycomb and Bees Playdough Stamping

With Rosh Hashanah just under a month away that means we are excited to start engaging in High Holiday crafts and activities so that the kids can have fun learning through play 🤗

This morning we started with some Rosh Hashanah DIY Honeycomb and Bees Playdough Stamping with DIY honeycomb and bee stamps and delicious smelling honey playdough recipe by Teaching Mama 👍 This activity was super easy to set up and allows for endless hours of free play with one of the best sensory materials around–playdough!

What You’ll Need

  • Honey Playdough (flour, honey, salt, cream of tartar, water, vegetable oil, yellow food coloring)
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Sharpie
  • Glue gun

Putting It Together

1. Make the honey playdough from Teaching Mama’s recipe. I added a bit more honey to increase the delicious honey smell. I also added yellow food coloring to have the playdough look more honeyish.

2. Make the DIY stamps by drawing honeycomb on a toilet paper roll then outlining it in glue gun. If you have a rolling pin that fits the toilet paper roll that would be absolutely perfect so stick in it. But if not, no worries! I did not have a rolling pin the right size so we just used our hands. It didn’t work fabulously, but it was definitely good enough! For the bee stamps, I cut open a toilet paper roll and taped it to a potato masher before drawing and gluing.

3. Set up your playdough tray with the stamps and the playdough and let your kids take it from there!

Finished & Loving It!

The kids had a blast stamping and rolling with this Rosh Hashanah DIY Honeycomb and Bees Playdough Stamping activity! My daughter really wanted to try stamping with flowers too so she grabbed some from the garden. They look pretty but did NOT stand up to stamping 😂

Having to move the honeycomb stamp took some coordination which means it was great practice for these little hands. My son’s favorite part was smashing down the potato smasher bee stamp to make the bees. Again, this is a fun and safe way to build those muscles, move their bodies, and develop those fine and gross motor skills.

And as always, playing with themed playdough is a great way to learn through play about whatever the theme is! As my kids played, we talked about apples and honey and how they relate to Rosh Hashanah.

I love using sensory activities to explore holidays. The smell of Rosh Hashanah is already in the air here!!
