Review Tikkun Olam with a Tikkun Olam Bingo Game

To review the concepts of tikkun olam, I created a fun Tikkun Olam Bingo Game that can easily be played at religious school or at home. Both my students and my own children loved it!

What You’ll Need

Putting It Together

1.Print out the Tikkun Olam Bingo Game template. It will work best if you have white cardstock paper since the game board will be more sturdy, but if all you have is regular printer paper, that will work too!

The template pdf contains six game boards. Each child (or adult!) playing will need their own game board so you will need to print out enough for each participant.

If you have more than six people playing, you can divide into multiple groups. In my classroom, we had three groups playing so I printed out three sets of the template.

2. Each template also contains 18 markers. They are the “Planet Earth First” rectangles. Cut out each of these and put in the middle of the table to be ready to play.

3. Each template also includes one drawing card that corresponds to each picture on the six game boards. Cut out each of these drawing cards and shuffle them. Once shuffled, put them in a stack facedown.

4. To play the game, draw a card from the drawing stack. Hold up the drawing card and allow the children to see if they have a match on their own game board. If they do, they can mark the match with a “Planet Earth First” marker. The middle spot on each game board is a free spot so the children can put a “Planet Earth First” marker there as well.

5. After looking for a match, ask the children how the card is an example of tikkun olam. You can say “How does the example in the card help repair or fix the world?”

With each card you can ask the children what are some ways they can perform this mitzvah. For instance, with the card “Help Someone Who Is Sick,” the children might say to bring the sick person food, make them soup, make them a get well card, go grocery shopping for them, or take them to the doctor.

6. The first player to have three makers/corresponding cards in a row wins the bingo game.

Played and Loved It!

This activity is a wonderful way to review the concepts of tikkun olam and to engage in meaningful discussion about what tikkun olam actually looks like. It requires the children to interact with the concept and think about real life examples of what tikkun olam is. Both my students and my own children enjoyed playing this game and I loved that they learned all about tikkun olam while engaging in a fun activity!
