Earlier today all 4 kids played with some variation of our Tu B’Shevat Color Matching Fruit Tree activity and it was a total hit!
What You’ll Need
- Box
- Tu B’Shevat Color Matching Fruit Tree activity Printable
- Scissors
- Tape
- Exacto knife
- Orange, red, green and yellow pom poms
- Tongs (optional)
Putting It Together
- Find an empty box. I like to cut the flaps off the top so it sits evenly when on the ground.
- Print the Tu B’Shevat Color Matching Fruit Tree activity Printable.
- On the back of the box tape the Fruit Tree Printable.
- Cut out the colored circles with an exacto knife (or a regular knife). Leave enough of the circle to still show the color. You can also choose to color around the circle with markers or paint. The hole needs to be big enough for a pom pom to be pushed through.
- Set up the box with the colored pom poms nearby and invite your kids to play!
Finished & Loving It!
The kids LOVED this Tu B’Shevat Color Matching Fruit Tree activity! They used tongs or their fingers to place pom poms in the corresponding colored hole on the fruit tree. For our preschooler, we also emphasized saying each color as he put a pom pom in to practice his speech therapy goal of color recognition and articulation.
The older two took turns practicing spelling and classification as they answered the prompts to what fruits are yellow, green, red and orange.
And Baby Brother even got a chance to play with a baby-safe version of this activity: pom pom fruit tree in a bag. All you need is those pom poms and clear liquid soap (I used dish soap) or hair gel in a ziplock then tape it to a surface with the fruit tree print out below.
This activity was great practice for fine motor skills, speech articulation, spelling, classification and categorization and the kids had fun too! We connected it to Tu B’Shevat, the new year, or birthday, of the trees, by talking about the different fruits that grow on trees and appreciating trees for doing this hard and tasty work. This is a fun and meaningful activity for multiple ages and stages. Let me know if you try the Tu B’Shevat Color Matching Fruit Tree activity!
