To continue learning about Israel this week in honor of Yom Ha’atzmaut, today we read the PJ Library book 3 Falafels in my Pita and did a fun and easy 3 Falafels in My Pita supplemental activity 🥙
What You’ll Need
- 3 Falafels in My Pita printable
- 3 Falafels in my Pita book
- Sensory bin (optional)
Putting It Together
- Print the 3 Falafels in My Pita printable.
- Cut out each item.
- If you want, you can laminate the items to last longer.
- You can also add velcro dots if you want to use them on a felt board. But you can always do the activity on a flat surface.
- Spread out the items. You can place them in a sensory bin for an added sensory experience. Or you can just spread them on the floor or table.
- Read one page of the book 3 Falafels in my Pita at a time. As you read the page, have your child look for the corresponding item. Once they find it they can lay it aside.
- As they find more and more items, practice counting how many of each item they find and adding the items in a line to encourage sequencing recognition.
- For an added challenge, bury the items in a sensory bin and have the kids have to dig and search for them.
Finished & Loving It!
As we read the book, my middles found the corresponding item, then added it to our felt board. This was a great opportunity for them to practice counting and identifying these different objects, while also learning about Israel in a fun way!
This book is short and sweet and therefore makes for a quick and simple read and activity, but could also be extended by adding challenges, learning the Hebrew for the words, practicing spelling of the numbers or the items, or anything else that you may think of!
As always, after we did the planned activity, the kids had a fun time exploring the bin (yay for finding some camel figurines!) and creating their own play experience. Baby Brother even got in the action too!
How did you celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut? Yom Ha’atzmaut Sameach!
