Tu B’Shevat Book Box

Tu B’Shevat Book Box

The first thing we always bring out when preparing for a new holiday is our holiday books and yesterday we made a Tu B’Shevat Book Box to hold our collection. Having all the holiday books grouped together in a book box makes it easy for the kids to grab a themed book and I’m always a fan of kid-made holiday decorations 🙂

Putting It Together

  1. Paint your box. We chose green paint to represent the greenness of new growing plants!
  2. For our tree decorations we painted with cotton balls with clothespins, forks and spoons to create different leaf shapes on cardstock cut outs.
  3. When the tree tops were dry we glued them to popsicle sticks then glued our trees to the box. Ta-da (or tree-da)! You now have a lovely kid-made Tu B’Shevat Book Box!

Finished & Loving It!

Perhaps my favorite part of this craft was the beginning when we opened up our Picturepedia book to the tree section and read all about different trees. We identified the ones we knew and looked closely at their shapes and the different leaves. Picturepedia is a beautiful book about so many subjects. It was fun to start our holiday prep with some basic tree learning!

Any type of paintbrushes or painting techniques (yep, even finger painting!) would totally work for this craft. I often like to try something a little different than regular paintbrushes to encourage different fine motorskills development. In our case the kids really liked the forks and the cotton balls but weren’t as big of fans of the spoons. They also used these DIY paintbrushes in different ways, creating a different product and also enjoying the process. Such a win!
