Most kids love learning about the 10 Plagues part of the Passover story and this 10 Plagues Card Game is a fun way to review the story and practice some skills at the same time!
What You’ll Need
Putting It Together
- Print out 1 or 2 sets of the 10 Plagues Card Game printable
- Cut out cards
- Laminate if you wish
- Start playing one of the games described below!
Each card has a picture (or more) of the plague, the name of it in English and in Hebrew, and a number. This allows every single card to help kids learn the name of the plague, which order it occurred, practice counting and practice Hebrew. There are so many possibilities! Check out the games you can play below!
Plague Identification
Introduce or review the names of the plagues by showing each card to your child. If they can read, they can practice reading the name. If they are pre-literate, the pictures should help trigger the name.
You can show each card one by one or lay them all out on the ground and have the kid choose which card to review.
Plague Sequencing
One of the parts of the seder is calling out the names of the plagues in the order in which they occurred. These cards can help your kids practice the order. You can scramble the cards and challenge the kids to put them in the correct order. Or, you can place them in the correct number and practice calling out their names.
Counting Practice
If you want to work on counting, have your child count the pictures of the plagues. The corresponding number and counting dots are also helpful tools to use when practicing.
Hebrew Practice
My oldest is learning Hebrew so he enjoyed practicing each of the Hebrew names for the plagues. He will be ready to lead for that part of the seder!
Memory Game
If you print out two sets of the cards you can turn it into a memory matching game. Flip all cards over and try to find the matches as you turn two cards over at a time.
Go Fish!
Another game my kids love to play is Go Fish! If you print out two sets of the cards you can play this game too. Shuffle the cards, deal five cards to each person, and try to find matches of the plagues!
Math Fact Practice
For more extension activities you can even create math facts with the numbers on the cards. My first grade is working on addition and subtraction and my fourth grader is working on multiplication, division, and fractions. Using the numbers on the cards is a fun way to practice these math facts and increase exposure to the 10 plagues!
Finished & Loving It!
My kids had so much fun with these cards! We made a similar game for Purim, a Hamantaschen Matching Activity, so they were familiar with using these cards to review the holiday and some other skill sets.
Since I would like my kids to remember all of the plagues, and be able to recite them in English and eventually Hebrew during the seder, the more exposure they have to them when reviewing and preparing for Passover is so helpful. And, of course, I want that exposure to be fun and engaging so that the experience is meaningful and enjoyable.
