Are Passover Plague Bags part of your family seder tradition?
Once we reach the 10 Plague part of the Seder, it’s our family tradition to pass out Passover Plague Bags to all the kids who attend our Seder. As each plague is called out, the kids search in their bag for the item that represents the plague. Usually we fill it with toys and stickers and some activities. But this year these items might be hard to get since we aren’t ordering non-essentials from Amazon or going to any stores (#quarantinelife!). So I came up with plague items that can be found already in the home!
10 DIY Passover Plague Bag Items for A Quarantine Passover
1. Blood: Band-aids, so easy!
2. Frogs: Frog origami bookmarks. I found a tutorial from Easy Peasy and Fun
3. Lice: Lice body scratchers, or just decorations, out of clothespins. Draw little lice faces on the top and legs on the sides.
4. Wild Beasts: Tiger paper mask
5. Cattle Disease: DIY cow finger puppet. Draw and cut out a cow shape with four cut out circles for fingers.
6. Boils: DIY body paint with cotton swabs. Made by mixing body lotion with corn starch and some food coloring. We follow Sephardic Passover rules so are ok with corn starch but you could see what happens if you try potato starch … or matzah meal!
7. Hail: cotton balls, another super easy one!
8. Locusts: DIY clackers to remind us of the noise locusts make. Made with cardstock and hot glued jewels. Could use buttons, bottle caps, etc. Don’t forget to draw a cute little locust on the front. The kids LOVED these!
9. Darkness: I made glasses out of black construction paper
10. Death of the first born: I made some sad face stickers
I put all the above items into paper bags with an image of the Passover plague symbols on the front. Then during the Plague section of the seder, I gave these bags to the kids to open, find each plague, and play!
Finished and Loving It!
The kids were so excited to open their DIY Passover Plague Bags! Even though I make them Passover Plague Bags every Passover, this was the first year I did so many DIY options and they really liked them.
Does anyone else use Passover Plague Bags as part of their Seder? How do you involve the kids in the 10 Plagues section of the Seder?
