Back by popular demand from my kiddos, a couple weeks ago we made our Purim Tape Resist Mural and I absolutely love seeing the bright colors and fun symbols on our wall! Purim starts tomorrow but there is still time to do this craft. It’s a great learning tool, a lovely Purim decoration, and a fun experience!
What You’ll Need
- Kraft paper or poster board
- painters or masking tape (we use the cool and colorful BamTape)
- washable poster paint
Putting It Together
- Tape the kraft paper or poster board to the wall. You can do this craft inside or outside!
- Set up your symbols by taping the outline of the symbol. We also taped some sections so the colors would pop.
- Let the kids paint!
- Once the paint dries carefully peel away the tape and you’re left with a neat colorful mural for the holiday!
Finished & Loving It
Making a craft with the symbols of Purim invites discussion of what the symbols mean, leading to a great review of the symbols, characters, and story of the holiday.
The Purim Tape Resist Mural is so much fun because you don’t get the full effect until after the paint dries and you peel away the tape. Then the symbols are revealed (oooh … they were hidden, a total connection to one of the themes of the Purim story!). It’s so fun to see the symbols and of course to know that you (or your kids) were the ones that created them.
Doing the mural on the wall allows the kids to move their bodies in different ways than if sitting, strengthening muscles and working across the midline, all good for our growing kiddos! But you can always take this idea and do it on paper on a flat table surface too.
Purim starts tomorrow evening–Chag Sameach!!! I hope you have a holiday filled with JOY!
