Hanukkah Tape Resist Art Activity + Decoration

This morning we did our first Hanukkah art activity and decoration of the season: Hanukkah Tape Resist Art Activity + Decoration. I absolutely love it!! It’s a fun way to kick off the Hanukkah feelings and decorate your house at the same time.

What you’ll need

Kraft paper or poster board
Tape–we love using BAM! tape for this type of craft!
Washable paint
Paintbrushes

Putting it together

1. I attached two layers of Kraft paper to the wall with BAM! tape.

2. Then I started to tape out the Hanukkah symbols that I wanted. Next we taped off random sections.

3. I spread some art towels on the floor to protect the flooring and brought out the washable paints and the kids got to painting!

4. Once the paint dries carefully peel away the tape to reveal your gorgeous kid-made Hanukkah Tape Resist Art Activity + Decoration.

Finished & Loving It!

The kids really liked helping tape out the symbols (they knew exactly which ones to do!). And once the paint came out they couldn’t get started fast enough. I love seeing their enthusiasm for the art process and the holiday prep experience.

The vertical set up is wonderful because it helps improve dexterity, control, upper arm strength, and stability. Lots of good things! And it’s fun. If you don’t want to do it on the wall, you can definitely prep cardstock or poster board or even cardboard and do the actual painting on a flat surface. Once it’s dry you can hang up the special artwork!

This process could also work for gifts or even Hanukkah cards but it might be hard to manipulate the tape on a smaller scale. No matter the size, this Hanukkah Tape Resist Art Activity + Decoration will be gorgeous, especially because it’s lovingly made by your kiddos!
