Finished & Loving It!

To make this I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Dreidel Retelling Craft we started off coloring our special Hanukkah symbols and while we colored, I shared the (G-rated) historical story of Hanukkah and how the Maccabees defeated the evil King Antiochus. We next read the PJ Library book I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Dreidel and acted out feeding the Old Lady each of the Hanukkah symbols from the book. The kids really enjoyed it! As we fed the symbols, we briefly talked about why each symbol is important to Hanukkah and made connections with the historical story and miracle of lights/oil and traditions we observe now.

My students seemed to really like this I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Dreidel Retelling Craft. I got to see lots of happy faces and little old ladies with latkes and dreidels in my zoom screen. How I wish we could do this activity together in person!

The I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Dreidel Retelling Craft helps the kids practice retelling the story which helps with memory development and helps them review the symbols of Hanukkah.

Once class was over my daughter wanted to do the craft again! I love that she’s in my class 🙂 We invited her big brother to join us and we got to read through the story and feed the old lady another time. Boy that Old Lady must be full 😉
